The deadline for purchasing tickets is Friday, March 16. After this date, no tickets will be sold to anyone for any reason. Tickets will not be sold at the Prom. Anyone arriving without having purchased a ticket will be asked to leave.

Who can attend the Prom? Do I have to be a homeschooler?

All homeschoolers who are in high school (9th through 12th grade) regardless of cover school or address, are invited to attend the Huntsville Homeschool Prom. A homeschooler must purchase the ticket(s) but may bring a non-homeschooler as his or her guest. Minimum age is 14 —-for a homeschooler or a guest.

Also, any senior who attended the prom and who has graduated high school may attend the prom the following year. So, if you attended the 2011 prom and graduated last May, you are invited to purchase a ticket and return for the 2012 prom.

Do I have to be a member of a certain cover school or co-op group to attend Prom?

The Huntsville Homeschool Prom is an inclusive event; any homeschooler is invited regardless of cover school. We have several different cover schools represented by members of our Planning Committee, and we have many different cover schools represented by students attending the prom. We have had homeschool students come to the Prom from all over Alabama, including Toney, Elkmont, Albertsville, Florence, Montgomery…. and from Tennessee!

Do I have to have a date to attend Prom? Do most kids come alone or with someone else?

Absolutely not! Many guests come with a group of friends, with a date, with one friend, or with his/her siblings!

Is there a dress code? Is this a formal event?

Yes, this special occasion is a formal event, an evening for dressing up! Attire for ladies is formal, semi-formal, and special occasion dresses . For gentlemen, appropriate attire includes tuxedoes, suits, or dress pants with shirt, tie, and jacket. Absolutely no jeans, t-shirts, or athletic shoes.

Dresses should be appropriately modest. The Planning Committee leaves this decision to the ladies and their parents. When shopping for your dress, please be sure to find something that is not only comfortable to wear but that will stay in place while dancing.

Can my parents stay to watch the prom?

Parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, grandparents, etc. may take pictures and stay through the Senior Promenade which begins at 7:30. Parents and other observers will leave during the Senior Dance. Pick-up is 11:00pm.

Why do parents have to leave?

This is the teens’ special night not the parents’. We parents had our prom chance some time ago…

Will there be a professional photographer at the prom?

Yes, Wendy Cogburn Photography will be our prom photographer this year. Packages will be available for $40, 30 and $20 and may be prepaid before Prom night. Pictures will be mailed directly to you within 16 days after Prom, if prepaid. These formal photos will start at 6:30. Ms. Cogburn will be taking single, couples, and group shots for you.

There will also be a “roving” photographer taking candid pictures during the evening. The candid photos will be posted via a link through our Facebook page shortly after Prom.

What kind of music will be played at the prom? Can I make requests?

Music for the prom will be provided by a professional DJ who will play a variety of songs including Pop, Country, Classic, Swing, Line, Golden Oldies, and more. There will be no profanity; “clean” versions of songs will be played. The Planning Committee works closely with the DJ to ensure no offensive music is played.

Ticket purchasers may make song requests by sending an email to: HsvPromSongs@gmail.com; the Committee will consider all requests for appropriateness.

Yes, the menu will include hot and cold hors d’oeuvres, and punch and water will be available throughout the evening.

I heard there will be a Prom King and Prom Queen? How are they selected? Can I enter?

All homeschool Seniors attending the Prom are eligible to participate in the drawing for King and Queen. There will be a box at sign-in for Seniors to enter their name, if they desire. At 9:30, one boy’s name will be drawn from the “King” box, one girl’s name from the “Queen” box, and the DJ will announce the Huntsville Homeschool Prom 2012 King and Queen. They are invited to share a dance and will receive a free ticket to the 2013 Prom!

Will there be chaperones at the prom?

Yes, there will be chaperones at the prom. Chaperones are selected from adult volunteers at the sole discretion of the Planning Committee. Chaperone positions usually fill very early in the planning process. A request may be made to be a chaperone but typically they have been identified and confirmed months in advance. At this time, all chaperone positions are filled for Prom 2012. Contact Kristen@lindelowkoon.com for additional information or any questions.

Are attendees allowed to come and go as they please? Can I leave to run to McDonald’s (or anywhere) and return to the prom?

No one is allowed to leave the building and return to the prom. Once an attendee or guest leaves the prom, they are not allowed to return since it is out of the control of the Prom committee and Chaperones as to what occurs while off site. Everyone checks in as they arrive, verifies an emergency contact number, and checks out as they leave. Planning Committee members will contact the parents of anyone leaving during the prom.

Can I get copies of the candid photos the roving photographers will be taking?

We will post some of those photos to the Huntsville Homeschool Prom Facebook page shortly after the Prom. The rest will be available to download and print via an online photo-sharing site such as Picasa or Shutterfly. The link will be posted at the Facebook page.

Please note: By purchasing a ticket and attending the Prom, each attendee acknowledges he/she will be photographed and video-taped for the purpose of sharing photo memories, social network sharing, in print, and for use by other attendees.

Any other rules or guidelines I should know about?

As few as possible…. But, we do have to have some to keep the Prom a safe, secure and comfortable place for everyone.

Outside food and drink are not allowed.

The Huntsville Homeschool Prom has a ZERO tolerance policy for any alcohol, drugs, smoking, or misconduct. Our chaperones will escort anyone necessary from the dance and parents will be notified.

Public displays of affection are unacceptable. This includes sitting on laps, making out, inappropriate dancing (grinding, moshing, dirty dancing, etc.)

Any complaints or concerns should be brought directly to a Planning Committee member.

Enjoy yourself and be considerate of everyone else!

My parents would like to help somehow… what can they do?

We need a few parents to volunteer to help us with the clean-up at 11:00. Clean-up takes us about 90 minutes and we’re hoping that, with a few more hands, we can all get home a little earlier. By the time the lights come on after the prom, most of the Planning Committee members are pretty exhausted. Clean-up involves packing reuseable decorations, folding and putting away the tables and chairs, carrying things to cars, final kitchen clean-up, trash removal, and sweeping the gym floor (that chore needs about four people working together!)

Oh, and the nice part about helping us is that those parents get to come at 10:45 to watch the very end of the Prom! Be an angel and contact Kristen@lindelowkoon.com to ask about helping with clean-up.

Ack! I still have questions….
